Pi Day and STEAM
Happy Pi Day from Cyber Garage
Today is Pi Day, and there are lots of reasons to celebrate!
Pi (the Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is 3.14159….and goes on and on to infinity. Since Pi is found in so many different equations in math, physics and other sciences, it is considered one of the most important mathematical constants. Plus, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge for kids to memorize, and to calculate to more and more digits.
Pi Day was started right here in the Bay Area at the Exploratorium in 1988 and provides an excellent opportunity to promote the importance of math to our children. Math is one of the key pillars of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), which is becoming increasingly important for our children’s future success. Today, schools around the world will be celebrating Pi Day by playing math games and in many cases, eating pie!
Cyber Garage, the new Makerspace and Tech Lab in San Anselmo, is celebrating Pi Day too. We feel that Pi – as a never-ending number – is the perfect symbol for learning. And we believe that learning (and FUN) should never end!
At Cyber Garage, we use the STEAM approach to help kids develop their full creative potential through technology and project-based learning. It makes learning more exciting and fun — and gives kids the opportunity to think creatively and apply knowledge that is applicable in the real world, just like a scientist or engineer working in the field.
Not every kid needs to grow up to become a scientist, engineer or designer, but in this ever-changing world, everyone needs to grow up to think like one. By providing hands-on opportunities to design, experiment, build and invent things from a young age, we help kids realize that subjects that once seemed “too hard” are now accessible…and FUN!
Cyber Garage offers classes, camps and workshops that spark the imagination and help kids develop creative confidence, critical thinking, perseverance, collaboration, and communication skills, which sets them up for success in school, and beyond.
Get your kids on the STEAM fast track at Cyber Garage! We offer classes to kids in K-8 in Design & Build Engineering, Coding, Game Design, Digital Arts and Robotics.
